Donna Redlick Dance

“created an atmosphere of skin-tingling immersion paired with an opportunity

to observe and question bodies in the space. -   Ileanna Cheladyn, Vancity Buzz

“dance-as-philosophical speculation.” - Kaija Pepper, Dance Current

“cleverly with philosophical ideas of perception”... “fun and thought provoking”.  - Janet Smith, Georgia Straight

“makes you think about the way we perceive the world”  - Tess Perkins, Press +1

Donna Redlick Dance is dedicated to creating and producing independent contemporary dance works that are sourced from the personal and the “lived” experience.

“Dance is like tracing the lived experience through the unfolding of the body in space and time. It is within this unfolding that an ephemeral architecture is made visible.  An architecture that for a fleeting moment makes the human experience tangible... I create dances as a need to capture the essence of the human soul and the human experience - to make visible the invisible, or tangible the intangible, through use of movement, image, metaphor, and texture. It is a way for me to synthesize and shape the depth of emotion I feel along with the complexity of life that I witness and experience.

The common thread that has always remained constant in my work is the relationship between inner and outer.  The idea of the inner landscape and the outer landscape/ environment being in a constant state of relating is something that I keep coming back to.  Sensitive to the human condition and the idea of “self” I believe that we are in a constant state of reflecting, being and becoming. How we are and become in our environments, whether natural or urban, is a curiosity for me.”

My most recent works have focused on the relationship between performer and spectator in non-traditional performance experiences that allow for engagement and the sensorial experience.  I have been exploring with themes of;  intersubjectivity, kinesthetic empathy, and sensing in performance.
