Surfacing

Donna Redlick Dance

Concept, Choreography and Videography:  Donna Redlick

Dance Interpreter:  Carolina Bergonzoni

‘Surfacing’ is a dance film created by Choreographer Donna Redlick, with dance interpreter Carolina Bergonzoni. The film focuses on a surface-to-surface relationship between the body, space and environment supporting the mover to remain in evolution in a state of emergence. The body remains in a sensing and proprioceptive experience as a way of ‘being in the world’, never arriving in space but rather becoming space, resulting in a haptic architecture.

Artist Statement

“In an anxiety driven world, where many individuals are feeling disconnected from themselves, I propose we return to the proprioceptive, a sensing experience that relates to touch and kinesthesia.  Returning to the proprioceptive supports us to feel located in space, recognizing that we are part of the world we live in.  As you witness this film I invite you to feel your body in relation to gravity and to the surface you are making contact. Soften your gaze so you can experience through the eyes of your skin and deepen your breath."
